YOUR HELP NEEDED....
by Mike Konopacki
Like many Pennsylvanians, I want to see Tom Corbett out of office. This man is a disgrace to Pennsylvania and the nation... absolutely the worst governor in the history of our Commonwealth.
Among the many sordid aspects of Corbett's reign of error:
1) because of his tax cuts for the rich, there is a budget shortfall of close to 2 billion dollars, thousands of jobs were, and will be lost.
2) Governor Corbett has accepted many illegal gifts and contributions.
3) accepted more than 3.6 million dollars from big oil and gas
4) PA is the only state that does not tax oil or gas companies for extraction of our natural resources - can anyone spell "quid pro quo"?
5) under-funded education, causing 77 school districts to raise property taxes, with more preparing to follow suit, increasing class size due to teacher layoffs.
6) Corbett is holding up the current budget pending an agreement to destroy public employee pensions.
7) Under Corbett's "leadership" PA has dropped from 7th to 48th place in job creation
8) There is nothing "PUBLIC" that Corbett doesn't want to sell or privatize. He knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Right now it looks like his opponent has a comfortable lead, but I don't think we can trust the Koch brothers, ALEC, and all the other candidate purchasers (especially Range Resources) to stay out of this race. They'll be pouring money into Pennsyvania to give their puppet another term as governor. I don't want to wake up on November 4th to see this headline::
Corbett Re-elected in Surprise Cliffhanger
The only way we can head this off is to bring Corbett's sordid record before the voters, and give them lots of real information on issues that are important to them - health care, education, union-busting, pension raiding, living wage jobs, police brutality, gun control, abortion rights, LGBT rights, immigration, privatization, economic and racial inequality, poverty in Pennsylvania, public transit, the war on science, preserving parks and wilderness areas, encouraging sustainable energy, and protecting Pennsylvania citizens from being poisoned by fossil fuels - coal, oil and gas. We want to immunize the voters from right wing propaganda and falsehoods. You don't have to support all of these ideas listed above to want to DUMP CORBETT... but this Roadshow will be packed with information that you will value. And it will be fun!
HERE'S THE PLAN:
How would you like to see a roving caravan of cars emblazoned with CRUSH CORBETT magnetic signs rolling into your town, bringing talented musicians and articulate community activists coming to get out the vote in your community to CRUSH CORBETT !! This rollicking roadshow will include music, storytelling, comedy, news, theater and so much more. It will be an unforgettable, thought-provoking and fun-filled evening.
We'll do as many shows as we can fund. This is the same organizing model I used for the highly successful 'Sing Out for Singlepayer Roadshow' in 2009. As of September 9th, we have $1600 in individual sponsorships and $11,000 in underwritng from unions. We are still far from covering our expenses. This should be a grass-roots tour. I want lots more individual sponsors. The tentative tour schedule is:
